The COVID-19 pandemic has meant that many industries around the world have been put on halt and sport was no different. Many events were either postponed or even cancelled, before finally return with great success. The European championships for example were postponed in 2020 and move to later this year and the same was done with the Olympic games, which have now been confirmed again that they are set to go ahead, with rumours circling about the event potentially being cancelled. But with Japan vaccination uncertainty this is still casting doubts over the Olympics really being able to go ahead in just a few months’ time.
Virtually all sports have returned in a professional format and we have seen sites like these, offer odds on events and provide great services for online entertainment. The latter being something that is now more important than ever, with lockdowns enforced and these restrictions remaining in place, resulting in people having to spend extended periods of time within their own homes. That is also where sport has been so important and provided something to look forward to for so many people and this is certainly why it is so important for it to continue to go ahead as normal, despite the lack of spectators in attendance.
When fans are able to return to most sports is up in the air and it could be a long while until this changes. That will certainly lead to real struggles for many sides in the lower leagues and there are also a large number that have already required help in order to get through this difficult period of time. In the UK for example, in football the Premier league is the top league in the country and the world, and the money involved is staggering. That is why it is so lucrative for these sides to be in this division and the top sides have provided a rescue package to some of the lower leagues, in order to help them through this period.
It is a similar trend that we have seen across other sports, with the leading sides and clubs helping out some of the lower ones, so that they are still around once this situation is over and so development is still taking place at lower levels. These are all examples of the successful return that we have seen in sport and long may it continue!
