Different Types of YouTube Ad Formats

  •         TrueView ads: TrueView in-stream ads play before a viewer’s selected video. At the bottom of the screen. There is a small countdown timer. You can skip these ads as there is a skip ad button on the right-hand side of the screen. These ads have a companion banner ad that is exhibited in the right-hand sidebar above the suggested videos list. You can customize TrueView in-stream ads with text overlays and calls-to-action. In this ad type, you are only charged when viewers choose to watch your complete ad, or view it for at least 30 secs, or interact with the ad in some way.
  •         Non-skippable in-stream ads: Non-skippable instream ads are exactly similar to TrueView ads except viewers cannot skip them. These ads are not very popular as users don’t have control over them. These are generally 15 to 20 seconds long. In this, the advertiser has to pay on a CPM basis, which means that advertisers pay a fee per thousand views.
  •         YouTube Bumper in-stream ads: These are just like non-skippable video ads that are played before a viewer’s chosen video. These are less than 6 seconds long. In this, advertisers have to pay for bumper ads on a CPM basis.
  •         Sponsored card ads: Sponsored cards appear in between videos as small call-to-action (CTA) popups. A small ‘i’ symbol comes up in the upper right-hand corner of a video. On clicking it, the card expands.
  •         Overlay ads: YouTube overlay ads are the simplest type of YouTube ads. These are banner ads that appear at the bottom while the video is still running.
